Total sales of albums were down by 15 percent for both digital and CDs, with CDs alone falling 19.3 percent to 205.7 million units. Meanwhile, digital album sales jumped about 60 percent to 23.5 million units.
The recorded music industry is struggling in the early stages of a transition to digital formats, such as MP3, from the dominant CD format. CD sales are declining faster than industry executives and analysts have expected.
Digital music sales are currently dominated by Apple Inc.’s (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile , Research) iTunes music site, which by some estimates has more than 70 percent of the market. Reuters
I think its pretty astounding actually. That it happens this fast. I like it though. Its much more convenient. It also gives the manufacturers of cd-r and cd-rw’s much more money, and room for more disc space, and improvements with mp3 players as well.

The Samsung Lyp-Sync Contest is not a widely spread promotion. It is focused around YouTube, and its promotion. Samsung bought a featured spot on YouTube’s homepage. Which isn’t working too bad. With just a couple days, the video has almost 400,000 views. Ashlee Simpson Lyp-Syncs on Live T.V
